currently playing: Soundtrack from "The Last Samurai"

First off, I was re-reading my last post. yea.... that doesn't sound exactly as it should. Every time I say, "I don't remember this, I don't remember that night," it is solely because of my horrible memory. It has nothing to do with alcohol. Most of you know this, but I don't drink.

With that being said, What a weekend!!

Thursday:

Long day of classes and meetings and this and that. It was late thursday night and I was on the phone with amanda. She was talking about how her roommate, ashley, would have her boyfriend up for the weekend. For some reason, I came up with the idea that I could maybe arrange to pick her up from UVA for the weekend and bring her down here to Tech. We could see each other, and it would give her roommate and bf some space. Well, I imed Andrew to see if he might be interested in a spontaneous road trip. At first he was like.... "eh, I dunno man." But all of a sudden he changed his mind and was like yea let's do this. So I tell amanda the plans (we would leave Tech around 4pm Friday afternoon, pick her up, then head straight back to tech). She was fine with that, so we decided to give it a shot. Oh yea, Andrew plays into this because he has a car at school and I don't. He was willing to just drive there and back twice this weekend just so Amanda and I could see each other. What a friend. I went to bed.

Friday:

I woke up and went to statics. I decided to skip physics because I completely forgot that I had to read about 50 pages of my English book by 1:25. I figured it was a friday physics class that wouldn't get much covered. I came back to my dorm room and read the 50 pages in like 20 min. I was so mad. It was 50 pages... but they were these very brief poem things. I was mad that I could have gone to physics... oh well. So I cleaned my room and did some laundry so that Amanda wouldn't be too disgusted when she got to Tech (not to say that she wasn't anyways). I tried my best. David and Derek got back from class and I was still cleaning. I told them about my plans for the weekend and David gave me this look like... "dude, how is that going to work?" And I explained everything and he was like "dude... you know its supposed to snow 6-10 inches this weekend... how are you going to work around that?" And I was like WHAT snow?!? what the heck man. So then I immediately started looking up the weather and all... yea... they were calling for some serious snow. But all the places I looked contradicted each other - they all had different predictions. So after a day of debating whether we should take the risk of bringing her down here, we decided to go on with the plans (it was risky because we didnt want her to get snowed in on sunday and not be able to get to classes on monday morning- that's the last thing I wanted to have happen). Andrew and I left around 5 or so to find his car in the cage... yea... it took us a good 20 min or so of walking around aimlessly to find his car. We didn't really get on the interstate until like 5:30-5:45. It was a pretty quick trip.... ok just kidding. So I got us lost on the way going into UVA and we added a good 20 min to our trip. My bad. So we picked up Amanda :-D and started back for Tech. After another 2.5 hours or so, we were back. We actually made pretty good time.
Once we got back to Tech, we chilled out for a few min, then I went around the dorm and introduced Amanda to all of my friends. I think she liked them. I know they all liked her (they all mentioned it after she left about how great she is- I know this :-) ). After that, we went to Dx so that I could have some dinner. We spent the rest of the evening hanging out and stuff around the dorm.

Saturday:

We woke up early cause I can never sleep in late as you recall. It pretty much started snowing when we woke up. We went to Owens for a breakfast/lunch after waking up and everything. After that, we hung around the dorm for a while I think. Then, I took Amanda to the breakzone to play some pool. She hadn't played much before, so I showed her my horrible rendention of the rules of the game and we played a game. They were having a tournament at the same time and I felt like everyone was watching us to see our skill level and all. We left after a game. It's too bad that I didn't have my access to the ware lab yet (haha - because I was always too lazy to go get the swipe card) because I would have liked to show amanda around that stuff and everything. She would have liked that. Alas, I didn't have the access, so I couldn't show her. We went to a very early dinner at West End so that I could show her the place before it wasn't too incredibly crowded. We got some pasta and stuff... it was ok. The pasta just didnt taste that great. Oh well, so west end didn't demonstrate its superiorty to the other places to eat that night. I think amanda still liked her food enough to actually eat it all :-) We got back and waited around here for a while until everybody else got back from dinner.
Then....

SLEDDING!!!

Man it was awesome. A whole bunch of us- andrew, me, amanda, derek, casey, dan, jason, jason, abby, david, and andy- all went. I may have left a few out- i don't remember. We all went over to the honors dorms and used our cheapo 4 bucks from walmart sleds. They worked quite well actually. It was such a fun time. The only problem was that there was this giant tree in the middle of the sledding path. I think all of us had at least one very close encounter with this tree. We would go down by ourselves, but we also started going down in groups of 2-8 or so people. Haha it was so awesome being in this long line of sleds all linked together by our feet. That's when the tree really became a problem because some people wouldn't let go of the people in behind them... yea that was scary at times. But we picked up good speed. I had a great time. I think amanda did too, so that was good. "Who doesn't have a good time sledding." :-)

We did that for a while, then came back to the room and we were exhausted. We hit the hay.

Sunday:

We woke up and Andrew came knocking on our door to see if we were ready to head back to UVA. We definitely were still in our pajamas and stuff haha. So we took a few minutes to get reayd and all and went on our way down the highway. It was a nice trip to Charlottesville and we didn't get lost this time... haha. We dropped amanda off :-(

After that, Andrew and I stopped for some subway. Man, we were hungry. We both realized we were wearing VT clothes and stuff when we got in there. We were like oh man... thats funny. We totally did not do that intentionally. We both got huuuge subs and huuuge drinks. I was mainly thirsty, but we were both hungry from not having any breakfast or lunch. Haha.. so we got in the car and ate our food as we headed back to blacksburg. Haha it was definitely a guy kinda moment. We were like....aaaah food... yum and made a huge mess and everything. It was hilarious. So after that we made it back to Tech in very good time (cause andrew was going about 80 mph) haha. we were like "dude its 81 miles to roanoke.... that's only one hour!!! Haha... it was funny (you had to be there). So we got back to Tech around 4:15 and I took a few minutes to talk to amanda before I started on my load of homework. I had a lot of work to do, but I worked really hard and got it all done in pretty good time. Jill called me around 12 for some trig help since her exam was the next day. I tried helping her on the phone for a while but I still had some homework to do, so I had to go. I got off the phone and felt bad for not helping her enough, so I just made a big review study guide thing for her instead of doing my homework. I hope it helped her. I'm not sure how well she did on the exam. I guess we'll see.

If you just read all of that mess, you are awesome. It was such a great weekend :-)

Good day.

This weekend can probably be summed up in two things: homework and racquetball. However, I will dive into some more detail for my own benefit.

Friday:

Class ended around 2:30 and I was incredibly happy to be out. It was a very, very long week and I was exhausted. I called Amanda and talked for a bit and then hung out in the dorm room for a while. I honestly don't remember what happened after that. Man I have such a bad memory. I probably just hung out around here for the evening. I'm sure I played racquetball somewhere in there. I know that I played racquetball actually and Andrew and I came back and didn't go sledding with everyone else because we were so tired from the games. We are really getting some beast workouts with this racquetball stuff. We have gotten so into it that we can barely walk back. It's so great. I think there was something else that I did on Friday, but I really can't remember.

Saturday:

I got to sleep in for the first time of the week. It was great. I slept until about 10:30 and then got up because I had to be at the ware lab by 11:00 for the sub team. We worked in there a bit and then the guy in charge assigned me to designing and building a pneumatic hatch lock thing. I was like.. "dude im just a freshman- i dont know how to do any of that." And he was like, "dude I did harder shit than that when I was a freshman, you can handle it." I was like... ok well if you say so. So now I am responsible for this sub being watertight basically :-/ We'll see how that goes... I mainly just need time to think about it. That's the hardest part... time. Once he assigned me that I got some parts together and left the lab. I came back to find derek awake. Everyone else around was just waking and starting to make some noise. I stuck around the dorm and did some work for a bit. I didn't get as much done as I was hoping. I played racquetball for a while with Andrew. By the time we got back, everyone had already gone to dinner. So, the two of us decided to go to Macados to get dinner. Derek wanted to come too to get some desert, so we were like alright sweet.
Well, I neglected to mention the amount of snow we got the past few days. A lot... haha. So we had to walk all the way to Andrew's car in order to drive to the restaurant. It was a good 20 minute walk in the crazy blizzard that we were having. So we all have the basic coat, jeans, and tennis shoes on.... yea, it was cold. So, we get to his car and all of us at the same time realize that we have to scrape the freaking snow off! haha, it was like all of us stopped at the same time and sighed. Andrew and I told derek to get in the car cause he just had a sweatshirt on. I used my arms and Andrew used a little squeegee that he had to scrape the 4-5 inches of snow off of his car. After a few minutes we both got in the car because we were getting too cold. After that, the two of us alternated getting out and scraping more while the other warmed up in the car. Finally, we thought we were done and Andrew turned his lights on... yea nothing. So, I got back out to scrape the snow off of his lights (since we forgot) and the freakin squeegee collapses.. it just basically snaps into 4 pieces haha. I was like ooh.. nice I guess we are done. So we start going... at first I was scared cause its horrible, horrible weather and I had never been in a car with andrew. He handled it very well I must say. Macados has an incredibly steep hill going into the parking lot and andrew decided to tackle it.. yea so we start sliding back down it when we are supposed to be going up and I was like dude you have to retreat and he was like nah man I got this. So he did. Haha I still dont know how he did it. So we get into the restaurant and get our seats. Our waitress comes out and is like, "So what made ya'll come out on a night like this?" in a very bitchy kinda way. I was like, "well, we were pretty hungry, its late, and everything on campus is closed/disgusting." She was such a bad waitress. Andrew asked her, "what's the difference between the nachos and the nachos grande." And she replid, "well, did you read it?" in a real snippy way. I was like oops.. there goes your tip. Anyways, so we ate and after a while we ventured back to our dorm. Andrew had to parallel park in the smallest space I have ever seen. We were like.."no way dude... you can't fit in that thing." He was like, "nah man, watch this." He made me get out of the car and direct him and stuff. He made it in? I still don't know how... the dimensions... I dunno. Anyways, so we start walking to our dorm and the wind was incredibly strong and COLD. We get the the door and derek was first, so he was getting his keycard out. Andrew and I were like "GO GO GO GO" cause we were so freaking cold. So derek finally gets it and we rush him into the door and he slips!! haha.. right into the puke from like two days before that some guy left after his "fun night out." omg it was the funniest thing I have seen since I got back to college. It was hilarious. I think the puke was semi-cleaned up, but man its funny to think that derek fell in it anyways. haha.. good times. Poor guy. I don't remember what else happened in the weekend.

Brian was on time yesterday, and we went to statics together. He is from highland springs high school in richmond, so we talked about that a little bit. He was very intimidating because of his knowledge of physics and math. Anyways, so he stopped shadowing me after my physics lecture yesterday. I think I'm going to like my classes this semester. I like them so far. My statics class is pretty intimidating because it is something I have never done before. The professor seems sort of unapproachable too. That makes it intimidating. Physics was great. I really, really like my professor (Dr. Chang). He is this really cool chinese guy. He is just really nice and loves to talk. It's hilarious and I think I'm going to get a lot from that course. After that, I had my physics lab. That is going to be great because ALL of my friends are in it. About 8 of us from my hall are in it together, and it just makes the lab a lot of fun. We had a good time haha. Then we all had some lunch and I went to English. My TA for english is ok I guess. He is really young (just got his masters) and he came in singing along with his ipod. That was pretty cool I guess. He seemed pretty excited about the class. It will be a lot of work, but I think it will be a nice break from my extensively physics-based schedule. My english class doesn't seem to be the discussing type, so we will see how well that goes. After that, I had engineering. That was alright I guess. I met this guy Michael, and we are kinda partners for the semester I guess. He was nice. We didn't do much in engineering other than going over the course. The teacher was nice. This is her first semester teaching anything (she is really young too). So we'll see how well that goes. She reminds me of Mrs. feliciani from hermitage. Ha.. like i can spell her name. After that, i went to dinner with everybody. Derek and I went to the Design, Build, Fly meeting like we usually do on Monday evenings. It kinda went on longer than it should have, but I guess it wasn't all that bad. We are test flying the plane on Saturday at the break of dawn? ok... we'll see who shows up. I might make an appearance. We came back and I talked to Amanda Smith for a while. Derek and I watched jon stewart like old times and then he went to bed because of his 8am. I stayed up despite my 8am and talked to jill online for a bit.

Today:

I had multivariable first. My teacher was one of those very old guys that thinks he has the right to be mean since he''s old. He is just a jerky old man. He knows his calculus though. I guess that's good. He just had this attitude about him. I did like how he would crack these tiny jokes that no one else laughed at but me. Kinda like mr. Davis in high school physics. It reminded me of that. The class was all review and it was incredibly boring material. Lines, planes, and cylinders in 3-space.. woo... After that, I went to diff eq. and that class was pretty much the same thing. However, my professor this time was a really sweet old guy. He was one of those old men that you feel bad for still having to trek through the 0 degrees weather to teach math. He came in all bundled up and took like 5 minutes to take all of his winter clothes in front of the class. Haha it was really funny/cute. Cute in the old man cute sense though. I don't have the hots for this man, sorry guys. The class was extremely easy. I realized how good of a teacher Mrs. Harlow was in calc 2 because we went through all of this stuff. Hopefully those two classes remain this easy for the remaining of the semester. After diff eq, I went to lunch by myself and ate early. After that, I came back here and did the statics homework that I couldn't figure out last night. I don't know what I was thinking. I must have been tired or something to not be able to figure it out last night. Oh well, I got the answer now. I am about to go to my first design meeting for the "supersonic, transcontinental, luxury airliner." I am excited. I just hope all of these seniors aren't like, "hey, the freshman bitch! Do this busy work." We'll see how it goes. I also hope that I'm not completely lost with what they talk about every meeting. Alright, time to get ready to walk across the deathly cold campus. Oh, by the way- it was 7 degrees this morning with a wind chill of -4 degrees when I walked across campus. This guy looked it up on his laptop when we got to class. Good grief... it's cold. And apparently it's supposed to snow 10 inches sometime soon? Snowball fight!!!... then freezing for weeks. Good day, everyone.

Yesterday:

I woke up and looked at the clock on the wall. It read 10:30am, and I got up all excited that I finally slept in past 9:30. I went and took my shower (oh how I missed the dorm showers) and I came back to my room and turned my computer on. I looked on the clock of the computer and it read 9:45. I was like..."?" cause I thought it was an hour later. Yea, I forgot that we never changed our wall clock for daylight savings time. I was used to reading it an hour fast last semester, but I completely forgot about it this morning. The whole point is that I didn't sleep in past 9:30... it was 9:30. Once Derek got up, we went to breakfast at D-express, and came back to get a few things. Then we went to the bookstore to get Derek's books and to get notebooks and things for me. After that, we came back here and chilled for a while before Andy, Andrew, Derek, and I walked around campus to find our classrooms. We did that for a good while and then got some lunch. Most of my classes are on one spot of campus then make me speed to the entire other side of campus in 15 min. We'll see how that goes. I may be late for a few classes each time. We came back and just chilled out for a while. I showed andrew some of my originals for piano and we recorded one of them so that we could start putting other instruments to it. That took up a little bit of time. David and Jason finally got here. Eventually, we all were hungry for dinner around 6 (we dont usually eat that early), so all 10 of us - (Stu, derek, me, matt, jason, casey, kiril, andrew, and some other guy that I can't remember)- went to dinner at Owens. I had a salad that wasn't all that bad. After that we chilled in the room until Wes and Nick got back. We helped them move in the freezing weather (it was snowing by the way). After that, I got an e-mail from Kevin Springer asking if a friend of his could shadow me tomorrow. I told him that it's the first day of classes and it probably was the worst day to have a shadow, but he said his friend wouldn't mind. His friend called me and we worked out the meeting plans and all. So he will go with me to a few classes tomorrow, then I will bring him back to the dorm so he can see what it's really like living in this place. After all of that, Amanda called and we talked for a while. Then all of a sudden she hooked up her airplane camera to her computer and it worked as a web cam! Man, I had no idea that it could do that. So I searched around my room for my web cam and finally found it in some box in my closet. So I hooked it up and we used them for a while. It was really nice seeing her. I sent her an e-mail, then got ready for bed. She must have gotten it right then because she called me a few minutes later. After talking with her, I slept. Now, an end to break, a new semester, a looong day awaits. Time to meet this brian kid. I hope everyone enjoys their day off. I will make the best of mine.

Yesterday:

Left Richmond around 5am for blacksburg. Dad and I got here around 9:30-10am and started unpacking all of my junk. We finally got it all in and I started going through stuff here that I don't need so that he could take it back. After I did that, we walked back down to the car and he drove me to Squires so that I wouldn't have to walk there to get some breakfast (I was starving). He dropped me off and he left to head back to richmond. I went into Squires (our student center) and found that Au Bon Pain wasn't open for food until Sunday. I walked over to Owens to find some food... not open either. So I just went back to the dorm and drank some orange juice. Andy and I were the only two really moved in at that point, so we eventually walked all the way to burger king to get some food. I came back and worked on my unpacking a long time until Andrew got here. I helped him unload all of his stuff and all. He brought his beast keyboard!!! yeeeaaa. So, after he got all unpacked, we were occupied for a while with that thing. He also brought his electric guitar back, so we can really jam and cause some ruckus (before he only had his acoustic). After an afternoon of unpacking and hanging out, we all went out to dinner for andy's birthday. We went to Mike's Grill... it was good. I felt bad because no one offered to pay for andy on his birthday, but if I couldn't afford to cover it all by myself, so I didn't say anything. I could tell he was a little surprised that no one would pay for him. Sorry man. After we got back, I talked to amanda for a bit before Derek arrived. Once he arrived, I helped carry his stuff up and we had a good evening just catching up and stuff. I also got to talk to amanda while Derek was unpacking :-) , so I had a good time last night. I miss her so much.

Yesterday I woke up at 9:30 ... finally after 9. Kevin had a dentist appointment around 11, so he took my car. Well, I didn't make the connection that my calculus notes were in my car from the day before. So he left and I went to start making notes for ashley and amanda... yea ... no notes. Oh well, so I decided to wing it. I just felt bad that I couldn't give them the last few things that I had. I will have to scan them at tech and send it to them via e-mail. So, I went and did the calculus thing for a while. After that, Amanda and I went to best buy to return her christmas present. I got her a digital voice recorder for school and I got it with the intention of her being able to put the files on her computer. Well, once she opened the present we both realized that it didn't do that. Yea, I got the wrong thing. Anyways, so we took it back to get the right thing. We also picked up Courtney's bithday present (2001 space odyssey and a gift card). After that, I went home to wrap the present and to "pack." I didn't get much packing done, but I finally beat my dad in darts and played my last few notes on the piano for a long time. I suppose I did some other things that I can't recall. Around 7, Amanda and I went to Courtney's birthday party. It was a good time. We watched part of Anchorman (what a dumb movie) and all of Napoleon Dynamite. That was ... weird? I dunno. Funny because it was stupid. GOSH. haha. After that, Amanda and I decided to split and we headed back to my house. She started to get on my tail with packing. I kept walking around saying, "oh yea dad, don't let me forget this," "oh amanda, make sure I take this with me," etc... So Amanda was finally like dude just put it with your stuff now. My dad found it very amusing. I guess you had to be there guys, sorry. Amanda and I played a game of darts and then I took her home. Of course that turned out to be an hour-long drop off because we won't be seeing each other for a while. A very sad departure I must say. That makes me a saaad panda. I miss her already.

I have figured out my new year's resolution. Those of you that read this know very well that I have a serious problem with remembering things. Not things I read. Not things I study. Things in my life. I have a very hard time remembering my past. I am like the old man that regrets never writing anything down because he can't remember jack. My new year's resolution is to write/type it all. I am going to start really typing all that I do and think because I need a way to remember it.

Today:

I have had a hard time sleeping over break. Sleep was no problem while at school, but I come home and BAM - awake every morning at 7:30-8:30am. What is with that? So this morning was the usual - I woke up around 8am. I ate breakfast and then started working on some calculus notes. I have been in a study group for calculus since break started with Ashley and Amanda. I already took the course they are taking next semester, so I write notes for them and go through topics. We have been doing this pretty much every day. After I wrote those notes, I played with my new satellite radio kit. Man it's awesome. I helped kevin do some recording for his a capella group. He had to lay down some percussion tracks. All I did was sit in the other room and press "record/stop" while he did the singing and stuff. After that I went for our calculus session over at ashley's house. She gave amanda and I Armstrong bracelets, so I finally have one of those... even though its a little past the race. Amanda and I went to the office store afterwards to pick up a few things for school. A quick trip to starbucks followed. Mmm... mocha fraps.... then I came back home and helped mom load the car for good will. She cleaned out my closet (good lord) and we had about 6 big boxes worth of crap to take. After that, I did some packing for school and had an early dinner. I came downstairs, woke my dad up, and played a game of darts with him. I lost to him, but won against Peter, so I didn't do all that bad. Amanda is supposed to come over sometime soon, so I must wrap this up. Not bad for a detailed summary of my dad, eh?

I keep wanting to go down to Tech for a day trip to get my books, so that I don't have to deal with the crowd when I get back. It just doesn't make sense to waste the gas and day doing that though.

My schedule next semester is really messed up. I don't really know how I'm going to handle it. My schedule was all fine before I left Tech for x-mas break, but I got notice a couple of weeks ago that I was accepted into a senior design team for a supersonic transcontinental luxury airliner. That team meets right at the same time I had multivariable calc scheduled. I had to drop that and hope that I could get it back (every class was completely full). I finally got a spot in another class, but I had to completely rearrange my schedule to do it. Now I basically have physics from 8:00am-1:30pm on Mondays!!! It starts of with statics at 8:00am, then physics lecture at 9:05, then physics lab at 10:10, then physics recitation at 12:20!!! All of these are a good 15 min. apart from each other, so its solid physics all day mondays. And my schedule doesn't lighten up Tuesdays and thursdays because of that. The way that it was been rearranged I have multivariable calc, then differential equations immediately after that on Tues/Thurs. That's math back-to-back for a good 3 hours.... ugh. Oh well, we'll see how I manage. I'm definitely going to be drinking loads of coffee this semester.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's Eve. I haven't written in here for a while. My Christmas and New Year's were fun and somewhat... normal? I dunno. It was fun though. We will see how much longer I keep updating this thing...I never have anything to talk about and no one ever reads it anyways... we'll see.

I haven't done too much over break until a few days ago. I finally convinced Amanda Smith to go with me to Belle Isle downtown and chill there for a while. She had never been there and it was a gorgeous day to be outside. We took a nice picnic lunch and chilled there for a long time. It was a wonderful time. I hadn't had that much fun since I have been home, so it was nice.

The Sugar Bowl is tonight. I know that none of you care. I will be watching it.

I have completed none of the projects and goals that I had in mind for this break. Surprise surprise. What have I been doing instead? Absolutely nothing. The kind of nothing that makes you go to sleep extremely early because you are too bored to stay awake. The kind of nothing that makes you stay awake because you are too lazy to sleep...too lazy to sleep. Good grief. I have accomplished nothing over this break, and I am sure that will continue to be the case when the semester begins.

I thank the one person that always rescues me from this nothing. She doesn't know it, but she's wonderful and I'm so glad to have her a part of my life. I think she is tired though. Tired of being bombarded by places to go- stuff to do. I just can't get enough of her. Thank you.
