ok ok.. so i haven't posted in a while. The only major thing that has happened that I can mention on here is that Tech beat uva. That's right. What a game. Thanksgiving break was great, but a little bit on the short side. I really enjoyed being back with the fam and friends. The family football game went on despite the damp and very muddy conditions. I must say that I ended up covered in mud by the end, only to have to drive a good 3.5 miles back to richmond.... without a change of clothes. Yea... so i got new shoes the next day. haha. That's enough for now. More to come later when I can concentrate enough to make a sentence consisting of more than a subject and a verb.

Bring it, finals

currently playing: Homeward Bound - Simon & Garfunkel

This weekend my cousin, Matt, is picking me up and taking me to Roanoke (where he lives). Once we get there, we are going to pick up the rest of his family and head to danville for my grandmother's birthday. I will be there probably until Sunday evening. It's gonna be fun to see the family and to get away from here for the weekend. One more week until break!!!!!! ... excellent. Talk to you guys later this weekend.

| Gone - Ben Folds |

I thought I'd write, I thought I'd let you know
In the year since you've been gone I've finally let you go
And I hope you find some time to drop a note
But if you won't
Then you won't
And I will consider you gone
I know that you went straight to someone else
While I worked through all this shit here by myself
And I think that you should spend some time alone
But if you won't
Then you won't
And I will consider you gone
I wake up in the night
All alone and it's alright
The chemicals are wearing off
Since you've gone
The days go on, the lights go off and on
And nothing really matters when you're gone
If you think that you feel nothing at all
If you don't (If you don't)
Then you don't (No, you won't)
If you won't
Then you won't
And I will
Then I will
Yeah, and I will consider you gone

So today I had my monster history test.. woo. I have no idea how I did on that, but it's done and over with, so I am gonna stop thinking about it.

I got my new speakers today! woo!! I bought some new speakers off of amazon.com last week with the money that I got from selling two UVA tickets and one Marlyand game ticket. I made like $80, so I ordered some niiiiiice speakers and they are here now. Wow... I am gonna listen to music all of the time now. I now understand why people in the hall just listen to music like this continually- they have nice speakers and the quality of the sound is just phenominal... actually nevermind.. they just listen to their music really loud to piss other people off.

So last night was the Reel Big Fish concert. It was excellent- as expected. They were much better this time than when I saw them play in Richmond. Richmond's concert was fun, but this was just mad crazy. Wes, Derek, Matt, David, and I all went together to see them and we somehow ended up dead smack in the middle of the jam-packed crowd... lets just say that my kidneys hurt now from so much moshing. Ok so the best part of the concert was this:

My roommate, Derek, is a pretty small (thin) guy. People were crowd surfing like crazy during the concert and as a joke I was like, "yo Derek, you're going up" and I made a cup with my hands to pretend to lift him up to crowd surf.... so he goes. LOL he jumped up and Wes, matt, and I lifted him to crowd surf. We held him above our heads for like 15 seconds before the people in front of us would freakin turn around and take him haha. So Derek makes it about 5 feet foward and next thing we know, his head is 3 inches from the ground and his feet are still above the people haha. He took a spill because some jerk didn't do his part in holding him up, and he definitely came this close to breaking his neck. The irony is that our friend david was the one that caught him before he hit the ground! haha- david was pushed up to the front during the moshing and and he was separated from us through the whole concert. It was so funny to see david catch him. So then David pushed Derek back up and Derek made it to the bouncers in front of the stage. It was the funniest thing ever. After the concert, we couldn't talk nor hear--- so we decided to go for milkshakes at Deet's place. I actually got a latte, but it's all good. We came back and I studied for my history test some before going to bed. I'm glad that I went out instead of studying- I need more of that.

currently playing: Good Morning Sun - Ben Folds

man, time is flying by. How is it already nov. 9? Pretty soon I am going to be sitting by the fireplace drinking hot cocoa .... mmm...

I'd say that after next week my semester is pretty much over. I just have to get through tomorrow's test in history and then finish my alice project and I am done. All that's left after that are finals... woo.. I'm excited though because most of my teachers are letting me take my finals early, so I might be able to get back to richmond as early as a week before everyone else starts break :-P

So we presented our Macgyver project this morning... shoot. It didn't work... again. So our group just sucks at life I guess. It worked so great last night while we were testing it and stuff in the hallway, but this morning we just couldn't get the angle right and we got a massive 15 points taken off from our score - definitely the lowest score in our entire class.... shoot. Oh well... this is why I'm not going to be a mechanical engineer.

Good morning sun. I am a bird.

currently playing: Butterfly's Day Out - Edgar Meyer, Mark O'Connor, Yo-Yo Ma

You know what's funny? I went home last weekend and while I was home, I1 did my laundry. That laundry included my bed sheets (thank god) and I came back to school. It's now sunday and I haven't put those sheets on my bed yet. That's right- I have slept on that white fluffy thingy that goes under your bed sheets- the whole week.

ok ok.. the real reason I haven't put my sheets on is because I was extremely sick at the beginning of the week with that viral infection and that would get REALLY bad in the evenings. I would be ready for bed and just too sick to bother putting my sheets on- I needed sleep. Since then, I have just been too lazy. That's me. I love college.

currently playing: Keeping the Faith - Billy Joel

Man, I really miss playing cello. I really want to send a letter to Jan Land or somehow get in touch with her because I really didn't ever thank her or show her my appreciation for all that she did for me. She is amazing and I was too crummy to let her know. I think I miss being part of the choir at church more though. I didn't know it was so much a part of my life, but now there is this hole and I think that's it-- no music. There just isn't enough time for me to get involved in any music stuff here. I guess I just have to wait until Christmas and borrow Annette's cello or something. It's just not the same without my rental though.. oh well.

I do get to play bass guitar when I'm jamming with andrew or dave, but we never really play anything other than the regular dave matthews, led zeppelin, doobie bros, billy joel, chilli peppers, etc... It's a lot of fun, but I'm not reading music, or playing an instrument that's really challenging like the cello. Actually, I am very impressed with Andrew's guitar playing. He can pick stuff up so quickly, so its tons of fun. I just wish he would learn how to read music and learn some theory behind it all because he would see his ability improve exponentially. oh well...

| Macgyver and Alice |

Yes, on the outside Macgyver and Alice look to be a nice and sweet couple... but on the inside they are the projects that keep us from watching our favorite baseball team win the world series, the projects that persuade us to cancel another night of racquetball, and the projects that give me a reason to miss building Orange Effect. Who is Macgyver? Who is Alice?

Macgyver:

In our engineering class, we are divided into groups of four people. This group is given a "macgyver box" which is a box full of random shit1 and then given something to design with it. For example, our first project this semester was to design something to make two mouse traps go off exactly 5 seconds apart from each other. There are several constraints, but basically no one could touch anything, so we had to design something to make the traps go off by themselves etc etc... Our project now is to design a vehicle that will drive 8ft and land in a 1-ft diameter circle. The vehicle has to pick up a playing card on the way and stop in that circle. Craziness. The worst part about these projects is that we have like toothpicks and shit to work with. We basically have a motor, 4 wheels and popsicle sticks in our box haha. I think our group is almost done though...

Alice:

Alice is a problem solving program that is used to teach students how to approach object-oriented programming before they take C++ . It's a huge Beta study on Virginia Tech engineering freshman (me) and we are indifferent towards this approach. Anyways, I have to make video game for my Alice project. I have to use this program they gave us and just make any type of video game with my group. We are making a Home Run Derby game and its really... kicking our asses as far as the code goes. It looks alright now though and I think we still have about a month to do it, so we are in good shape.

So Alice and Macgyver are really the two main things we are working on now in engineering. We are doing some MatLab stuff (graphing linear, semi-log, and log-log graphs using the program), but its really easy. I have an engineering test Thursday, but I really don't fee like studying for it. I will probably get in some study group come Thursday afternoon.

Ok... so I didn't keep my promise and write in this thing while away. I will start keeping it up now! I promise. However, I will only keep writing in this thing if I know people are reading it, so leave those comments! Within a month I should have at least 3 readers... so thats a start.

This semester has already gotten to the point of being old. I am very excited about next semester because I can get out of these stupid basic classes and start doing some real math and some real engineering. I am definitely ready for some kind of break though... thanksgiving and christmas- you make my year.
